MicroBac is a blend of mycorrhizal fungi. This blend should be used to restore biological life to soils in situations where it has been completely depleted such as land being re-purposed for agricultural use. Microbes are the life of the soil. Beneficial organisms help make nutrients and minerals available to plant life and without them plants have a very difficult time accessing nutrients and other inputs in the soil. This blend of microbes was selected to increase the efficacy of fertilizer. Beneficial microbes are known to release bound materials from soil.

Soil gives plants much more than just structural support. Healthy soil contains beneficial mycorrhizae, which may help plants break down organic matter & regulate nutrient and water flow.  Many soils, however, are unhealthy, and their beneficial mycorrhazae populations are weak or nonexistent. Plants growing in such soils are weaker, less healthy, and susceptible to stress, pests, and disease.

Micro-Bac is teeming with a diverse population of beneficial mycorrhizae, and after application, these mycorrhizae colonize the soil and plant roots, making plants healthier and stronger, and making the soil better able to absorb water and transport nutrients over the long-term. Chemical fertilizers have very short-term effects—using them is like eating candy: the effects are rapid and very noticeable, but unhealthy in the long-term—while Micro-Bac is very long-lasting—it’s more like eating whole-grain bread: it lasts a long time and promotes better health.

What is mycorrhizae and how does it benefit plants?

Mycorrhizal fungi form a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship between a fungus and the roots of a vascular plant, and have done so in nature for hundreds of millions of years.  In this biological link between the root and soil, the fungus grows into the root and out into the soil and becomes a very important component of soil life and soil chemistry.  In most soils that have been used for intensive cropping with applications of chemical and pesticide laden fertilizers, the population of these beneficial fungi has been considerably diminished and can no longer support and enhance plant growth.  However, when mycorrhizal fungi sufficiently colonize a root system, they form a network that enhances the plant’s uptake of water and nutrients, stimulates growth, and improves overall plant health.
